Caceres el Viejo is identified with the Roman camp of Castra Caecilia, founded towards the year 80 B.C. The Centre of Interpretation is within the site, in a workhouse that was rehabilitated to house it. Excavations here have provided a lot of information about the camp. We know its structure, borders, size, etc. The large number of remains that have been found are conserved in the Museum of Caceres, in the archaeology rooms. The excavation process is explained on panels and there is an attempt to recreate the daily life of a Roman soldier, with replicas of the military clothing, offices and rest areas. A model and projection complete the centre’s contents. Outside there are signs so that you can follow the camp’s layout correctly.
